Severe profuse diarrhoea caused by the simultaneous mass emergence of

large numbers of encysted small redworm. This results in extensive damage to the intestine causing

a loss of fluid and protein and also reducing the intestine’s ability to absorb fluid and nutrients.

Larval cyathostominosis can prove fatal in up to 50% of cases. Young horses are more susceptible to

larval cyathostominosis
