Small redworm larvae that, after burrowing into the wall of the intestine,

stop and remain within a small pocket until they are stimulated to continue their development.

Small redworm larvae will encyst at certain times of the year when environmental conditions

are unfavourable especially over the winter or if there are large numbers of adult worms in the

intestine.
