Townend Schubert is crowned the Virbac 3D Worming Show Pony Personality of the Year 2016

At what is now generally recognised as the ‘Oscars’ of the world of showing, the glittering Show Personality of the Year Awards welcomed over 500 guests to walk down the red carpet to enjoy a superb dinner and watch the winners of the 2016 Show Personality of the Year Awards presented in the impressive atrium at the East of England Showground on 22th October.

This year it was one of the top native ponies that was voted the winner of the prestigious Virbac 3D Worming Show Pony Personality of the Year, the handsome Fell Stallion Townend Schubert, owned and ridden by Rebecca Penny.

Townend Schubert has certainly had a season to remember, achieving a hat trick of top titles, winning his class at the Royal International Horse Show and Horse of the Year Show this Year, he is also reigning Olympia Champion, having won his class there and then sweeping all before him to take the overall title.

‘What can I say’ said Becki ‘he really is a pony of a lifetime and one in a million. It’s not just what he has achieved results wise but he is the most delightful pony to have around, he’s the perfect gentleman. One of my proudest moments was watching him carry Kinvara Gardener around the packed arena in the display at Royal Windsor this year. You only need to see that to see what an amazing boy he is’.

Purchased by Becki as a ‘gangly wild 3yr old’ Becki describes him as ‘the best pony I have ever bought.  Every time I walked in the stable I thought WOW, and I still do 4 years on.  I had a time when I was bed bound at home, all the ponies went except him and my non-horsey mum would bring him to the window to see me, it actually kept me going’. Becki is also keen to mention the input into Schubert’s education of Amy Devane. ‘Amy has produced him and did so much with him for me, she is a massive part of everything that he has achieved’

The runner up award went to Purple Ronnie, a 20 yr old pony who has been ridden by two sisters, Nicole and Olivia Bowen.  Having won the HOYS 13cm Working Hunter Pony Class last year, he now enjoys his retirement at the family farm.

The Virbac/3D Worming Show Pony Personality of the Year Award

The 3D Worming Show Pony Personality of the Year is an integral part of the Showing Council/Showing World Show Personality of the Year Awards and is one of the most intensely fought categories on offer.

The 3D WormingShow Personality of the Year is a unique award as in order to reach the final of this category the ponies have to be nominated with reasons as to why they might deserve to be recognised for outstanding achievements in the show ring. From hundreds of nominated ponies an acclaimed judges panel selects 6 finalists to go forward to a public vote. Voting lasts 3 months after which the winner and runner up is then announced at a prestigious Awards Presentation Evening that takes place at a leading venue in October.

Virbac Animal Health have supported the Awards since its inception three years ago and seen the Show Personality of the Year Awards grow in stature to become the ‘Oscars’ of the showing industry.

‘We are delighted to be supporting the Show Personality of the Year Awards for a sixth year’ said Dr Rick Manlove, Director of Large Animal Business Virbac UK. ‘The Awards have become a leading industry standard award, and the calibre of finalists each year reflects the high regard in which these awards are now held.  We are looking forward to meeting our finalists again this year at the Gala Presentation Dinner in October’
